A relationship must not be viewed only as a way of giving to one’s partner but as what you and your partner stand to gain in the relationship. It is tragic when you demean in a relationship: it means you have diminished both in character and worth. In addition, some people have been wounded beyond normal in a relationship that they ought to have avoided if they have answered some questions sincerely.
Some young men and women have become physically and emotionally involved too quickly at too deep a level, leading to inappropriate behavior. Not knowing that a healthy relationship should begin at the levels of purpose, motivation, interests, dreams, and personality.
You shouldn’t be emotionally entangled in a relationship because it can be difficult to break off if need be.
Asking relevant questions and giving them sincere answers will help safeguard you from relationship pitfalls. There is no point staying in a relationship that doesn’t add to your self-worth and improve your character.
Therefore, before you go into a relationship with a person of your interest, you must be able to answer this question “what are the benefits and danger of going into a relationship with this person?” This question will prepare your mind towards the potential benefits and dangers of getting into a relationship with the person. But the potential benefits must outweigh the potential dangers before you go ahead with the relationship. And your approach to the question must be sincere and thorough to help sharpen your decision.
The next question is “who are you in the relationship?” This is a question of identity: identity is the individual characteristics by which you are recognized or known. If this question is answered sincerely then you will know who you are in such relationship. Truthfully, some people are nothing more than a punching bag or a slave in the relationship because of the kind of treatment they received from their partners. You will be able to change many things that might have gone wrong if sincerely answered.
Furthermore, who are you becoming is another question that must be answered. For you to be able to answer this question, you must know who you are before you got into the relationship and what you have become. Have you experienced any growth in some areas of your life? If your answer is yes then you are in a healthy relationship.
Another question to answer “is the relationship producing good fruit?” If yes, what evidence can you show for it? Some of the fruit of a healthy relationship are peace of mind, growth in worth and character, self-confidence, trust, achievements etc.
There is a saying “by their fruit you shall know them” Fruit don’t lie, it is a great indicator to know whether you are in a healthy relationship or not.
Lastly, what are you learning? There are different things to learn in a relationship and some of them are tolerance, forgiveness, and acceptance. For example, learning tolerance is learning how to stay with a person of different character and view. You and your partner have some differences and it must be well managed for the relationship to be adventitious.
